Scarecrow Competition
Design a scarecrow and be in with a chance to win a £50 prize
in our free competitions for adults and children.
Gertrude Jekyll (1843 - 1932) was most famous for her garden designs and writing but she was also an artist, craftswoman, photographer, and collector. She lived most of her life in Surrey and adored its countryside and rural ways of life, creating a collection of objects from rural cottage life. She had a major impact on gardening in the UK, and here at Guildford in Bloom we love her gardens!
Guildford Museum are holding the "Gertrude Jekyll in Surrey" exhibition from 24th April, and we have decided to honour her talent with a Scarecrow Competition. We are looking for scarecrows inspired by the famous gardener’s planting style or her signature colours of white, purple, blue and lemon.

How to Enter
Entering is easy. Just build your scarecrow, take a photo of it, and send the photo to competition@guildfordinbloom.com including your Name and Entry Level (Adult, Child).
The closing date for entries is 31st July, and the winners will receive a £50 voucher of their choice.
Judging will focus on creativity, links to Gertrude Jekyll’s gardening style and there will be extra points for using upcycled materials.
Want some inspiration? Why not visit the Gertrude Jekyll exhibition at Guildford Museum, which runs from Saturday 25 April to Saturday 24 October.
Guildford in Bloom is a volunteer-led community group dedicated to enhancing the appearance of Guildford through gardening, conservation and environmental projects. We are grateful for the involvement of our sponsors and supporters to make this event happen.
